The Farmington Music Department provides opportunities for students to experience college and career exploration.Guest speakers and field trips are provided for career exploration. in this photo, music students attended college sessions on careers combining music with science, math and business specifically in acoustical engineering, sound production and entertainment management.
Maestro Edward Cumming, the Hartt School Orchestra Director, visits the Farmington Public Schools regularly working with our strings students and teachers thoughout the district. Recently, the FHS orchestra performed in a side-by-side concert at the University of Hartford with the Hartt School orchestras.
Our high school ensembles regularly perform at area universities mentored by college professors performing with college students. The opportunity to perform together, discuss college life and tour the campus are key learning
experiences for our musicians as they look ahead. The FHS choirs perform with the UConn orchestras and choirs in a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at Jorgensen Hall.
Additionally the music department is committed to promoting citizenship through community service involvement. Student musicians regularly share their talents with community groups such as the senior center, social services, the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and area museums.
