This course encompasses classroom and physical activity experiences with the emphasis on team-building and group process through competitive and cooperative activities both in the gym and the classroom. Students will also explore the process of personal improvement and behavior change as they complete an authentic behavior change over 4 weeks. Personal health topics covered include sleep, movement, and nutrition and how they can be optimized for total wellness. Successful completion fulfills the graduation requirement of Personal Wellness 11. Enrollment is on a space available basis. A minimum of 10 students is required to run this course. (Students will need clothes for physical activity each day (there will be time and locker room access to change) This is a class for FARMINGTON High School students ONLY!

Transition for Success

The purpose of the Transition for Success course is to assist students in developing the tools necessary for positive academic, behavioral, and social/emotional success at Farmington High School. Students will engage in activities to jump start their freshman year. They will learn about motivation and growth mind-set, and they will set goals and organize themselves for a successful launch into 9th grade. Students will receive personalized instruction on the supports available to them as students at FHS, including training on using the technologies utilized by FHS faculty and staff as tools for learning. Enrollment is on a space-available basis and open to any incoming FARMINGTON High School 9th grade student ONLY!

Students will continue to grow musically and develop life-long musicianship skills through collaborative and independent study in warm ups, performance, improvisation, rhythm, chamber work, solo repertoire, as well as sight-reading skill builders. Students will also be able to start rehearsing the Northern Region Festival audition music at camp. NO BEGINNERS! Students must currently be studying band instruments in order to register. Motion, Balance & Creativity Academy

This program will focus on team building, positive leadership, and making smart decisions. The academy will also center around refining art skills in a variety of media. Students will create a painted batik tote bag, acrylic painting with alternative painting techniques, or a nail and string design art piece. Participation in a one-on-one critique process with the instructor will help to improve each student's overall work so he/she can come away from the academy with an art piece. This program is designed for intermediate string students to enhance and refine string skills developed in the Suzuki curriculum, to extend learning on more advanced string techniques, and to provide a multi-dimensional approach to string instruction. All students will have contact with the entire music faculty in mini lessons, note reading, general music, and orchestral experience with the additional opportunity to take an art class. Chamber Academy

This program is designed for advanced orchestra students and includes an hour of orchestra, quartet, rehearsal and art instruction daily. Students accepted into this program are placed in chamber music groups and an orchestra and are coached by our staff of professional musicians. Together they will prepare and present their selected chamber music projects in a concert at the end of the 3 week course. Students will also direct their creative energies in developing individual art projects under the guidance of a professional artist. They will explore the comparison of art and music as a means of expressing similar ideas and will be encouraged to draw from other cross-disciplinary interests as they research and develop their projects. Through this program, students will continue to develop as self-directed learners, critical thinkers, communicators and problem solvers. Musical Theatre Academy presents "Willy Wonka"

This course is designed for those interested in learning how to use the potter's wheel. Students will learn how to center and pull up forms on the wheel. Experience the whole process of pottery creation from the clump of clay to a shiny glazed masterpiece. Each class includes demonstrations, hands-on feedback, clay, the use of tools and glazes. Pieces will be fired, and students will glaze them in the fall. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: JUNE 8th!

Each day will focus on one food group, starting off with an interactive nutrition activity, followed by a hands-on cooking activity where children will make their own lunch and some tasty snacks using ingredients from the food group of the day. This program will teach children the basics of healthy eating, with a hand-on approach. The program will be nut free, and children will come home with new recipes, new skills, and new knowledge about the food that they eat. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: JULY 13th!

The instructor, Katie Shepherd, is a Registered Dietitian who created her program Food Explorers, as a way to introduce children to healthy eating a with hands-on approach.

Following a real-world production cycle, YHA Beta Masters work in teams to develop an innovative game prototype from conception to completion. Campers will use the Stencyl game engine to take their computational learning to the next level, creating original graphics and bringing them to life with Haxe coding.         Jr. Junior Golf Camp is a weeklong series directed by Chet Dunlop, CT PGA teacher of the year, in which he utilizes your child’s sense of curiosity and fun to expand their natural abilities. This camp is for children that are new to the game as well as those who have experience with the game. The camp will focus on the enjoyment of the game and sportsmanship. Equipment will be provided for those that need it for no extra charge. Be sure to bring a water bottle and wear sunscreen.

Course fee includes American Red Cross babysitter training book and a certificate which is mailed out within a month of successful completion of the course (student attendance is mandatory to receive a certificate).

          Museum Arts Summer Program

          The Museum Arts Summer Program, being held at the New Britain Museum of American Art, will include activities in drawing, painting, performing arts, creative writing, and book illustration. These activities are based on the museum collection and are team taught by certified teachers, museum instructors, professional artists and performers. A field trip to the Hill-Stead Museum is included.

          Parents are invited to the museum to view the collection and share in their child's experience on August 3rd from 3:30-5 PM.

          There is no cost! This is a FREE gram funded through a grant from the CT State Dept of Education providing art supplies, the use of instruments and snacks (free of peanut products).

          HILL-STEAD MUSEUM

          Summer On the Hill

          Play Like the Popes! Hill-Stead was once home to a private, six-hole golf course, which is highlighted in a special exhibition this summer. Children will visit the new exhibition Diamonds in the Rough: Golfing at Hill-Stead and then they’ll get to putt with “hickory sticks” like the ones that were used in the early 1900’s. They will also play croquet, lawn tennis, board games and other fun pastimes that children enjoyed when Hill-Stead was home to the Pope family.

          Experience Art! Paintings, pastels, sculpture, prints and more adorn the walls at Hill-Stead. Each day includes an exploration of the techniques and creativity needed to produce art in the style of Hill-Stead’s collections. In addition to daily projects, each child will use oil pastels to create an Impressionist-style work of art over the course of the week.

          This program follows the State of CT Preschool Framework which closely aligns with the Common Core as a basis for our curriculum and focus on cognitive, personal, social, creative, and physical development. Onsite entertainment is provided on a weekly basis. Outside water fun including an inflatable waterslide is available! Campers will also enjoy weekly themed events. Snacks are provided daily, and, along with entertainment, are included in the tuition. ALL participants must be toilet-trained.
