Summer Reading 2012


Suggested Summer Reading List


English 100 

Freshmen who are not given specific reading assignment should read at least two grade-level appropriate books. There will be an assessment at the beginning of the year.


English 100H

Required reading and attached assignment 

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

Assignment

plus one novel of your choice.


English 200

Sophomores who are not given specific reading assignment should read at least two grade-level appropriate books. There will be an assessment at the beginning of the year.


English 200H

Students should read at least three choice books.


American Literature Honors

Students must read three age-appropriate books.  The teachers suggest that students write a summary of important characters, plot points, and themes as a way to remember specifics.  Students can expect an assignment regarding summer reading at the beginning of the school year.


World Literature H

Required to reading: Oedipus the King by Sophocles

In addition, students should select two works of appropriate reading level by authors not native to the United States.  Choices may include novels, memoirs, or short story collections.  See the resource lists at the FHS library catalog (http://destiny.fpsct.org) (select public-list under the World Lit at the bottom) for suggestions of appropriate works from different regions of the world.
