Leslie Imse is the Music Department Chair of the K-12 Music Program in the Farmington Public Schools. For the past seventeen years, Mrs. Imse has been teaching in the Farmington Public Schools. She instructs AP Music Theory, Chamber Singers, and Madrigals at FHS.
Mrs. Imse has been teaching for over 30 years in Michigan, Ohio, New Hampshire, and Connecticut. In 1991, she received the Celebration of Excellence Award presented to outstanding educators by the Connecticut State Department of Education. In 1992, Mrs. Imse was honored as the Teacher of the Year in the Granby Public Schools where she was the high school choral director and K-12 Fine Arts Coordinator.
During her tenure in Farmington Public Schools, she has taught at Irving A. Robbins Middle School and Farmington High School In 2006, the Connecticut Chapter of the American Choral Directors honored her with the Choral Director of the Year Award. In 2008, she was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award by her undergraduate Alma Mater, Westminster College.
Leslie is the director of the Chamber Singers who performed with Beethoven's IX Symphony with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and the Hartford Chorale in 2012. They have also performed with CONCORA, Connecticut's Professional Choir in the fall of 2010 and in the summer of 2011, the ensemble was featured at the Hartford Symphony Orchestra's Talcott Mountain Music Festival . Most recently, her choir performed with the University of Connecticut choirs and orchestras in a performance including Beethoven, Schubert and Vaughn Williams.
The FHS Music Department presented Gian Carlo Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors, Gabriel Faure's REQUIEM, Vivaldi's GLORIA and recent musicals, The Sound of Music, Footloose, Oliver and Brigadoon (partnering with the Drama Department) in the FHS auditorium. Our FHS choral ensembles have performed at the National Cathedral and National Basilica in Washington, DC, CIAC's International Olympic Opening Ceremony at Foxwoods, Disney Spectucular in Florida, The Lincoln Memorial National Monument,Jorgenson Auditorium and the Connecticut All-State Conference with the All-State Band at the Hartford Convention Center. Our Farmington Public Schools Music Department was awarded Best Communities for Music Education for exemplary instructional programs for students, inspiring teachers, and a supportive community.
