Parent Teacher Organization
The mission of the West Woods Parent Teacher Organization is to support student learning and to promote a strong partnership between home and school. The PTO works towards its mission by promoting parent involvement in the school, by enhancing student life and educational experiences, by collaborating around issues of school improvement, and by fostering community spirit within the school. Every West Woods family is a member of the PTO.
The West Woods PTO supports the school in a host of ways, including but not limited to: the "no-frills" fundraiser, contributing to cultural and fine arts programs, serving as liaison to the Student Council, co-sponsoring the Book Fair, supporting schoolwide service projects, offering parent education programs, and providing volunteers for school activities. The PTO also runs the West Woods School Store, collects boxtops, participates in grocery store programs and offers school spirit wear for sale throughout the year.
The PTO meets six times a year. This year, the first meeting is 9/21/11 at 7:15 in the West Woods Library. Future meetings are scheduled for 11/2/11, 1/18/12, 2/29/12, 4/11/12, and 5/23/12.
The PTO officers for this year are: Co-Presidents: Kathy DiVirigilio and Jodi Hernandez.
West Woods also has a School Council which includes administration, teachers, parents, and staff and meets throughout the year to plan for continuous school improvement. The Council participates in drafting the School Development Plan, school goals, and the annual school budget. Any parent who is interested in serving on the School Council should call the school office at 860/284-1230.
