Happy New Year and Welcome Back!

I hope you have all had a restful vacation and are ready for History Day 2015.

MEETINGS We will be meeting this Thursday, Jan. 8.  We will most likely be meeting every week until the Regional competition on March 28 in Hartford.

REGISTRATION Many of you have not yet completed your online registration.  In addition to completing your own registration, you must have your parents complete their portion. I cannot process the registration  payment until all of these steps are completed for every student. Please try to see me before Thursday so that we can get this finalized. I will be available after school on Monday and Wednesday.  I can also be available during lunch for the 7th graders.

RESEARCH At this point you should have a thesis statement and be finishing your research.  Please remember that you should have a combination of primary and secondary sources.  You should also be arranging at least one interview as part of your research.  I will share the research update form from our last meeting with you to help you with your planning.

PROJECTS Once your research is completed you should begin to plan how you are going to present the materials.  In doing so, you need to use the new Rule Book and rubrics as guides. We will be looking at both during our upcoming meetings. We will also be reviewing process papers and annotated bibliographies.

DEADLINES Our first competition is Saturday, March 28.  If you are creating an exhibit, documentary, or doing a performance, you will bring all of your materials to the competition including your process papers and annotated bibliographies. You will be able to work on your project right up until that date.  If you are creating a website or writing a paper, your project, process paper and annotated bibliography is due on online by midnight, Friday, March 13, 2015

Our field trip to Connecticut’s Old State House is this Thursday afternoon.  Please return your permission slip to Mrs. Molloy or Mr. Guignino as soon as possible.

We will meet in Mr. Guignino’s room at the beginning of 7th period.  Eighth graders should bring a bag lunch and you will have a few minutes to eat before leaving the building.  You will not have time to eat in the cafeteria.

Please remember to talk to your teachers as you will be responsible for any missed work.

We will be back at school by 3:45 in time for the late buses.
