The Farmington Public School's Fine and Applied Arts Department offers a comprehensive art program where learning about the arts is integrated within the district-wide curriculum; meaningful to students in a deeply personal way; as well as relevant to students' understanding of their immediate environment as well as the wider global community and how they belong in both. Multicultural art education is broadly conceptualized to include issues of social justice and critical pedagogy. Each teacher creates a space where practice takes many forms, using a variety of media, so that students have multiple opportunities to explore their innate creativity. Curriculum and assessment are designed to offer choices within the structure of the district-wide standards; which are sequential, developmentally-appropriate, and skill-based, to support both differentiated learning and healthy risk-taking.
